Every week TerraMetrics, in cooperation with the Kansas
Applied Remote Sensing Program based at the University of Kansas, produces
a set of four vegetation maps using satellite data for the entire United
States. The set of maps is called the GreenReportŪ. The maps, initially
developed by the KARS Program as part of its ongoing NASA research,
illustrate crop\vegetation progress and condition. Light colored areas
in Difference Map 3 illustrate the extreme drought conditions that were
present in Texas and Oklahoma during the summer of 1998, where agricultural
losses were in the millions of dollars. Dark green areas are those where
foliage is more lush than average.
